What are the initial requirements for a low voltage license?
Low-Voltage/Limited Energy License: A low-voltage special systems license is required to perform certain work under 50 volts.
Low Voltage Specialty Licenses:
Low Voltage Special Systems (ES-3)
Telephone Communication Systems (ES-7)
Journeyman Sound, Intercommunication and Electrical Alarm Systems (ES-3J)
Journeyman Telephone Communication Systems and Telephone Interconnect (ES-7J)
Residential/Commercial Electrical Contractor’s License (EE-98)
An applicant must submit an application to the Contractors Licensing Service which notes:
– proof of practical and related experience
– proof of passing scores from Experier (CID’s approved testing vender)
– Qualifying Party Certificate (if applicable)
– Completed Contractors License Application
– A copy of your business entity’s registration with the New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department.
– Your registration with the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission (NMPRC) if you are applying as a corporation or a limited liability company.
– Either a license bond, OR completed cash collateral assignment form, OR, a current financial statement
– The correct licensing fee, certificate fee and application fee.

What are the continuing education requirements of the State?
The State of New Mexico Construction Industries Division (CID) continuing education requirements for renewals of journeyman electrician and journeyman lineman certificate of competence includes at least sixteen (16) hours continuing education in every three year period between respective Electrical Code updates of which eight (8) hours are code change instructions and eight (8) hours are other industry-related instruction.
Effective July 1, 2005 proof of completion of the continuing education requirements shall be submitted to the Division with the application for renewal of journeyman electrician certificate of competence. An application for renewal that is not accompanied by proof of completion of the continuing education requirements is incomplete and will not be processed.
Effective July 1, 2012 proof of completion of the continuing education requirements shall be submitted to the Division with the application for renewal of journeyman lineman certificate of competence. An application for renewal that is not accompanied by proof of completion of the continuing education requirements is incomplete and will not be processed.
