Minnesota law does not require locksmiths to be licensed or bonded. Some municipalities require that a locksmith be certified before doing business in a community. To be certified, a locksmith may be required to complete certain limited training programs on installation and other locksmith skills.
What are the initial requirements for Electrical Contractors and Personal Power Limited Technicians?
Chapter 1315 of the State Building Code adopts a national standard for the installation of electrical wiring, apparatus and equipment for electric light, heat, power, technology circuits and systems, and alarm and communication systems. Minnesota’s electrical code consists of the National Electrical Code (NEC) as published by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). We license electrical contractors, electricians and installers and register unlicensed individuals.

What are the continuing education requirements for Electrical Contractors and Personal Power Limited Technicians?
Applicants for renewal will need from two to sixteen hours of continuing education coursework every twenty four months. Hours required and the breakdown of required coursework is dependent on the type of license held.

- Maximum hours for credit focus on statutes and rules governing electrical installations, Minnesota electrical licensing laws and rules, and technical topics related to electrical installations and equipment.
