Residential Fire Systems

This four hour course Residential Fire Systems details basic and specific guidelines concerning the installation, maintenance, and service of household fire alarm systems. The information in this course applies primarily to life safety in the following structures: one- and two-family dwelling units; sleeping rooms of lodging and rooming houses; individual dwelling units of apartment buildings, guest rooms, sleeping rooms, and living areas within guest suites of hotels and dormitories; day-care homes; and residential board and care facilities.

This course has been approved to provide the three hour smoke detection requirement by the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs, New Jersey Fire Alarm, Burglar Alarm and Locksmith Advisory Committee for all Burglar Alarm License renewals and initial applications.  Approval Code (TECRF-13(8)C044)

Product Description / Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, the installation professional will have a thorough understanding of how to safely and correctly install the basic components of a household fire alarm system, as well as how to recommend service and maintenance to the consumer. The professional is made aware of his or her role in the promotion of fire safety not only in the act of installation, but also in the need to communicate basic fire safety and specific testing and maintenance demands to the customer. A variety of possible installation configurations is considered, and the prescriptions of the IRC, NFPA 101, and especially NFPA 72 are applied.
