Special Hazard Fire Protection_Extinguishing Agents

Fire suppression systems incorporate detection devices and utilize Extinguishing Agents to put out a fire. Extinguishing agents are designed to remove either the heat or oxygen from the fire triangle to disrupt the combustion process. Fire suppression system designers must take into consideration the properties of the hazards protected and the characteristics of the agents used in suppression. Technicians must be familiar with the properties of the extinguishing agents to handle them properly, and the installation of components used to deliver them.

At the conclusion of this course, the learner will:

    1. Compare the basic types of suppression systems.
    2. Acquire an understanding of Total Flooding and Local Application systems.
    3. Classify the properties and characteristics of clean agents.
    4. Identify applications in which they are utilized.
    5. Analyze the purpose of mechanical components that deliver and distribute clean agents and how they are installed.
    6. Differentiate the various listing agencies.
    7. Implement standards and procedures that apply to fire suppression systems.
